Roman Ramble - Discover our Roman History

Posted 19 May 2025, 1:15 p.m.

Join Davidsons Homes, Priors Hall Park and Oxford Archaeologists for a gentle guided walk and learn more about the rich history of Priors Hall Park.

Join us for a unique and immersive walking experience through history as we explore the Roman past of Priors Hall Park. There are 2 FREE bookable sessions available to attend on Sunday 15th June.

The Roman Ramble begins at the Davidsons Homes showhome before setting off on a guided approximately 2km walk through the scenic Priors Hall Park Heritage Trail, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Along the route, Oxford Archaeologists will lead talks at key points, sharing fascinating insights into the Roman villa discovered on-site and the area's rich archaeological significance. Recent findings include kilns, tiles and a temple mausoleum highlighting the area’s industrial heritage and Iron Age origins. Visitors will also have the opportunity to be the first to see plans for a new roman themed Amphitheatre and fort-style play area, which will be built next to the field later this year.

Following the walk, return to the Davidsons showhome for a chance to explore an exhibition of:
Roman artefacts and finds
3D models and reconstructions
Interactive historical displays
Plans for the new Roman-themed play area and Amphitheatre coming to Priors Hall Park

This is a rare opportunity to learn about local history first-hand while enjoying complimentary refreshments provided by Davidsons Homes.
